Improved

  • If anything does interrupt your microphone during a recording, Screen Bolt now tells you afterwards and says so in those terms, rather than describing it as dropped frames and sending you looking at the video for a problem that was in the audio

Fixed

  • Microphone audio no longer picks up faint clicks during busy moments in a recording. When the screen was changing fast enough to keep the video encoder fully occupied, small pieces of your voice were being discarded rather than waited for, and each missing piece left a tiny gap that plays back as a click. It was most noticeable on long recordings of fast-moving screens. Your audio is now held until the encoder can take it, so nothing is thrown away
  • Recording the screen no longer competes with the microphone level meter for your microphone. The meter in the recording bar was supposed to let go of the mic before recording started and did not quite manage it, so for a moment both were holding the same device

Fixed

  • Exports now contain the part of the video you kept. If you trimmed a clip in the editor, by dragging its edge or by splitting it and deleting the piece you did not want, the timeline showed the shorter video but the exported file was still the full recording. A ten minute take trimmed to eight exported all ten minutes. Nothing you were doing was wrong, and no step was missing. Deleting a marked region was never affected, which is why this only hit some people
  • Your pointer, click rings and camera stay with the picture after a trim. Because they were still following the original recording rather than your edit, trimming two seconds off the front made every click ring fire two seconds early and left the camera two seconds behind the screen for the whole export
  • The camera lines up in the editor preview too, including after you trim or reorder clips
  • A video you drop onto the timeline is no longer treated as though it were your screen recording. If you deleted your own recording's clip and kept only the imported one, it inherited your recording's microphone volume, pointer and camera, so the wrong cursor was drawn over footage it had nothing to do with
  • One damaged audio track no longer stops an export. It is now skipped and the rest of your audio still exports

Improved

  • The choice between opening the editor and exporting straight to a file now lives in Settings under Recording, alongside the other recording options. It used to exist only in the Record menu, so if it was ever switched over to exporting, nothing anywhere explained why the editor had stopped appearing

Fixed

  • The editor now opens in front of your other windows when you stop recording. It was opening behind whatever you had just been recording, so it looked like the app had quietly saved your video and skipped the editing step altogether
  • Your mouse pointer and your automatic zooms are no longer lost. Cursor tracking was only written to disk after the editor had been open for a while, so a recording whose editor you never saw, or a project you opened from the File menu right after recording, came back with no pointer anywhere in the edit and no zooms either. Screen Bolt draws its own cursor rather than capturing the system one, so when that tracking went missing there was no mouse on screen at all. All of it is now saved the moment you stop recording
  • Pressing stop a second time while a recording is still being finalised no longer leaves you with a saved file and no editor
  • A recording that cannot be finalised now tells you so, instead of dropping you back at the recording bar with no editor and no explanation

Improved

  • New recordings start with a cleaner camera style: a softly rounded 4:5 portrait card with the border beam on and no outline. Projects you have already recorded keep the look you gave them
  • Camera styling now carries over between recordings when "use last project settings" is on. It was the one part of the editor that setting quietly ignored, so every recording started over from the defaults no matter how you had set the camera up last time

Fixed

  • Your camera now lines up with your voice. The camera takes a moment longer to start than the screen recorder does, and that head start was never accounted for, so your mouth moved before the matching sound arrived. An iPhone used as a Continuity Camera was worst affected because it takes the longest to wake up. Every recording now measures the exact gap and shifts the camera to match, in both the preview and the export
  • A second camera is corrected on its own timing rather than the first camera's, and its audio moves with its picture instead of sitting seconds ahead of it

Fixed

  • Microphone audio is now recorded on macOS Sonoma. On Sonoma the mic was never captured at all, even though permission was granted, the device list worked, and the level meter moved while you spoke. Every recording came back with a Microphone track that was completely silent
  • The microphone you choose is the one that gets recorded. Picking a specific input in the recording bar had no effect on any version of macOS: recordings always used whichever input macOS treated as the default, so choosing a headset or an audio interface quietly recorded the built-in mic instead
  • A microphone that cannot be opened now tells you so when you start recording, instead of leaving you to find a silent Microphone track in the editor afterwards. The usual causes are another app holding the device, or a Continuity mic that has gone to sleep
  • Recovering an unfinished recording made with the mic but no system audio now restores it as a Microphone track rather than System Audio, so noise reduction and the mic volume control apply to it again
  • The app icon now matches the shape of every other icon in the Dock, instead of sitting there as a hard-edged square

Fixed

  • Closing the teleprompter with the (x) button now actually stops it. It used to keep running invisibly in the background for the rest of your recording, redrawing a window nobody could see and holding a CPU core busy the whole time. On a long session that could starve the recorder itself
  • The teleprompter no longer bogs down on long scripts. It was re-reading your entire script sixty times a second, which on a 30 minute script cost more processing time per second than there was time to spend. Long scripts now cost no more than short ones
  • Auto Scroll runs at the reading speed shown in the header. A script listed as "~32m" used to scroll off the end at around the 16 minute mark, leaving you with nothing left to read halfway through your recording. 1.0x now means the pace it says it does, at every speed setting
  • Switching between Auto Scroll and Manual keeps your place. Going from auto to manual and back used to jump the script forward by however long you spent in manual, with no way to scroll back, and switching to auto part way through a recording could leave the text frozen entirely
  • Pausing and resuming a recording no longer sends the teleprompter back to page one
  • Cameras that cannot record at 1080p, including the 720p built-in camera on some Macs, now record at the best resolution they support instead of failing to start
  • The camera preview now fully releases the camera before recording reopens it. This fixes the preview vanishing the moment you hit record, with no camera track reaching the editor afterwards. Continuity Camera was hit hardest by this
  • Camera and recording problems now appear in the app instead of failing silently. A camera that could not open used to just disappear without saying why

Fixed

  • Auto-blur sensitive text now scans your whole recording. On anything longer than about three minutes, the scan hit an internal decoding limit part way through and gave up, so nothing at all was blurred. A scan of an 8 minute recording that previously found nothing now finds every email address in it
  • A scan that fails now tells you so. Previously a failed scan looked exactly like a clean recording, which is the worst way for a privacy feature to be wrong: you could export believing nothing sensitive was found
  • Blurs no longer flicker off for a moment on text that stays on screen. When text recognition occasionally misread a single character, that reading counted as a different address and started a fresh blur, briefly leaving the real one exposed. Readings that differ by one character are now treated as the same text and stay covered throughout

  • Cinematic cursor movement: every mouse move in your recording is rebuilt as a smooth, deliberate glide. Wobbly hand paths become clean arcs, motion eases out of rest and settles gently into each stop, and every move plays at a calm, watchable pace instead of the raw speed of your hand
  • Clicks stay honest through all of it: the rebuilt cursor always lands on the exact spot at the exact moment you clicked, so the cursor and the UI it drives never fall out of sync
  • Drags stay true: while you drag a window or select text, the cursor locks to the real pointer, so whatever you are carrying never slides away from it

Improved

  • The auto-zoom camera now glides with the cursor instead of stuttering when the cursor reaches the edge of the zoomed view. The camera anticipates cursor motion and follows fast moves in one smooth pan, in both preview and export

Fixed

  • On macOS Sequoia, clicking any clip or zoom region in the timeline selected the last one, which made editing impossible. Selecting and dragging now work correctly on every track: video clips, zooms, webcam, camera, and overlays

  • Auto-blur sensitive text: one click scans your recording on-device and drops a blur over every email address it finds, with optional phone number detection and a custom keyword list for names, domains, or IDs. Nothing leaves your Mac
  • Detected blurs are tracked, not static: they follow the text as the page scrolls and stay locked on through auto-zoom, in both the preview and the export
  • Every screen change is scanned, so even a dialog that flashes for a fraction of a second gets caught. Each blur lands as a regular timeline item you can review, adjust, or delete before exporting

Improved

  • Noise Reduction now runs on DeepFilterNet 3, a modern neural denoiser. Fan noise, room rumble, and electrical hum that the old engine left audible are now gone, while your voice stays natural. Works on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs
  • Zoom in and out move like a camera operator: motion starts gently, peaks mid-move, and settles softly instead of jumping to full speed on the first frame. Zoom-outs also linger a touch longer than zoom-ins
  • Audio Enhance shows live progress from the moment you flip a toggle, and tells you when noise reduction is skipped because macOS Voice Isolation already cleaned the mic during recording

  • Audio clips on the timeline are now fully editable: trim from either edge, split at the playhead, and drag to reposition. Trimming slides the waveform so you can see exactly which part of the file plays
  • Audio clips play in the editor preview, in sync with the video, exactly as they will sound in the export (including over cut regions)
  • Per-clip volume, fade in, and fade out controls in the Audio panel, applied in both preview and export
  • Export your recording's microphone or system audio as an M4A file: right-click the track in the timeline. Re-import it in this or any other project as an editable audio clip, so you can cut and rearrange a voiceover freely

  • Exports no longer hang at 99% on recordings where the mic audio ends slightly before the video, which is common with USB and other external mics on longer recordings
  • Failed exports now clean up after themselves instead of leaving large unplayable video files on disk

  • Clicks land exactly where the cursor was pointed, with a visible deceleration into the click point — no more cursor trailing the click ring on fast end-of-flick clicks
  • Idle cursor is rock-still. The sub-pixel shake that crept in on stationary frames is gone
  • Auto-zoom in and out no longer slide sideways before the zoom kicks in. Zoom now leads the pan — the world comes forward first, then the camera glides into the target. Same on the way out: zoom retreats first, then the camera eases back to neutral
  • Cursor and zoom motion are computed once per project from a 240 Hz baked curve, so 30 fps and 60 fps exports look identical and scrubbing matches playback exactly

  • Auto-zoom transitions feel more cinematic. The camera now snaps toward the focus and decelerates into it on the way in, then releases gradually on the way out, instead of the old symmetric ease
  • Auto-zoom holds at full zoom for longer (1.8s instead of 0.6s) so viewers can actually parse what was clicked before the camera pulls back
  • Annotation bars on the timeline now show the shape's own glyph (arrow, rectangle, line, highlight, callout) and pick up the annotation's chosen colour, so each one reads at a glance instead of looking like every other overlay
  • Blur regions render an always-visible dashed outline, so you can see exactly what's covered even when the blur strength is low or the camera is zoomed in
  • The window picker no longer shows closed-app ghosts, floating overlays, or tiny palette windows. Only real, visible, on-screen windows make the list
  • Mic level meter sits a touch lower in the recording bar so it doesn't crowd the icon
  • Renamed the auto-zoom transition speed presets to Snappy, Smooth, and Cinematic, and lowered the default in/out duration to 0.6s for a tighter feel
